We seem to have lost the immanent Power of the Feminine. There ones was an age which was led by the honoring of the female where a wholeness of being between the one and the cosmos could be found. The Great Mother was not only a symbol for life, but for death too and she could be found everywhere, in everything and everyone.

Therefore a system of egalitarianism occurred which was filled with participation mystic and respect for all living things, since She holds all dimensions. It wasn’t until the shift in the stars that this form of living and the honoring of the feminine changed. In this era the Gods shifted to the sky, and the earth, the feminine, became sinful. The lunar era had to make place for the solar era. The earthly was taken over by fire, the feminine by the masculine.

It is part of a bigger story of women trying to take control over their own narratives. The important thing is to make people think about these topics. The more it becomes a daily subject people talk about the more control we, women, can take over own storyline.

As Donna Hardaway puts it: How to make the weak stories stronger, and the strong stories weaker?

The rituals, altars and according imagery used back then, were a big part of society as places and tools people could use for solitude, reflection and honoring. By making tapestries, another age old tool usually carried out by women to tell stories about their culture, I try to connect this Feminine Power to our daily lives again.

A physical place to honor and remind you of the fact that a woman is holy. By bringing back objects, altars and symbolism into our daily life with these carpets I am trying to find a way to give this long lost Feminine Power a new place within our patriarchal society.

Shown at On Your Own (2019), groupshow at Haagse Kunstkring, The Hague.
